“The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your world. You gotta push your horizons as far as they'll go.”
About the Roleplayer
Nickname: Rox
RP Experience: About a year, Intermediate level
About the Character
Name: Sanae Hanekoma
Age: Unknown (looks to be in his late thirties or early forties)
Anime/Game/OC: Game: The World Ends With You
Personality: Sanae defines “mellow.” He’s laid back to a fault, in spite of the amount of coffee he drinks, and full of quirky, if trite, wisdom. When he sobers up it’s for a reason, but getting seriously angry isn’t really something he does.
History: [SPOILERS THAT WILL SERIOUSLY RUIN THE GAME FOR YOU YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT TO KNOW THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED IT THROUGH] Much of Sanae’s past is unknown, but he has several different identities. The first is Mr. H, the friendly, if enigmatic man who owns a coffee shop and is perhaps a little too friendly with Neku’s least trustworthy partner, Joshua. But he’s also CAT, the widely renowned graffiti artist and producer of a popular clothing line—which he imprints with subconscious signals to “Gather” and “Enjoy the moment more.” That’s not the only Producer, either, as he also serves the Composer of Shibuya’s Underground. Finally, Sanae is an Angel, Fallen and cast from the ranks due to teaching Sho Minamimoto how to create Taboo Noise. But it was all to save the city into which he’d invested so much effort and had so much potential; the Composer sought to destroy it for the sake of sparing the other planes, and the Conductor played a Game to decide its fate. Sanae took a third position that opposed both, selecting Sho Minamimoto as his Composer of choice in the event that he couldn’t sway the current one and Joshua had to be forcefully replaced. He also meddled with Neku here and there, saving both him and Beat from certain destruction and seeking to shape Neku’s unstable aura, knowing all the while that Neku looked up to him unwittingly as CAT. Ultimately, Minamimoto was taken out of combat, but Sanae still changed Joshua’s mind and preserved Shibuya.
Role: Teacher
Weaknesses: Coffee, the margin for error, current status
Strengths: Phenomenal cosmic powers, sly intellect, mad tech skills
Weapons/Magic: Phenomenal cosmic powers
How did you come to be at the academy?: To keep an eye on a few people important to the future of Shibuya.
Custom Title: Hip Café Barista
RP Sample: Sanae adjusted his shades to protect mocha eyes from the sun. Summer was coming to an end, and fairly soon the winter months would set in. Back in Shibuya, a few more people might be stopping by WildKat for the heat of a coffee mug and the caffeine to get them through the next day of work or school. They’d be chatting to the barista, sharing their thoughts on their lives and maybe even mentioning a CAT mural they’d spotted on the way over. Shibuya would keep fluctuating and changing like the sea in his absence.
He’d miss that.
But when Joshua up and decided to follow his proxy, Sanae had little choice in the matter—and when junk heaps stopped appearing around the city on top of both of those, that was just that. Shibuya was plateauing after the recent Games—a lot of negative energy had been dispersed and even under a minimal watch it would be fine.
Besides, the new barista at WildKat would be keeping an eye on things, even if there were a few Tin Pin games on the side.
Can’t trust anyone if you can’t trust yourself, after all.
