About the Roleplayer
Nickname: Ettard. I also go by Rajah, which is my more common alias. Either one's fine with me!
RP Experience: Eight years. Generally advanced depending on my muse.
About the Character
Name: Bartz Klauser
Age: 17
Anime/Game/OC: Final Fantasy V
Personality: Bartz is probably the most carefree person many people will ever meet. Taking everything in stride and rolling with every punch, the junior will find the silver lining in every foul situation, no matter how thin. He's amazingly extroverted, and seems to be on a crusade to make sure nobody sits alone at a lunch table. Many consider him to be an obnoxious big brother of sorts- the one who'll watch your back and give you advice, but who also does the exact opposite of what he advises you to do on a regular basis.
This reflects in his academics- he's a bit of a slacker on work. It's not that he doesn't put in any effort, he just forgets to turn things in and then decides to never make up for it. He does well on tests and quizzes, proving that he's a bright young man, he just isn't usually activating the part of his brain that isn't concerned with pick-up lines.
History:
((FFV spoilers, ahoy!))
Bartz was raised from the beginning to be carefree. Born in a small, isolated town known as Lix, he never knew of the fact that his father was a great Warrior of Dawn, one of the four mighty fighters who fought back the wicked warlock Exdeath, a tree given cruel sentience by the monstrous man known as Enuo. He just grew up knowing that his father was an extremely strong man- which only made it more surprising that his father begged him that, should Bartz be left without his parents, he was to travel the world alone.
His childhood was fairly regular- one night he was playing hide-and-go seek, creeping onto the roof of a tall house, only o realize he had hidden a bit too well. Attempting to hop down, Bartz ended up hanging onto the narrow edge of the roof tiles for an entire night, a large drop just begging him to let go. Ever since, he absolutely refuses to get near anything that may result in him ending up far from the ground. Extremely ironic, considering that he would later be blessed by the Wind Crystal.
Bartz's mother died from an unknown illness a few years after he was born, while his father died during his teenage years- and so, honoring his father's wish, Bartz took his beloved chocobo Boco with him as he wandered out of Lix, no specific destination in mind. This habit continued, the boy and his beloved, feathered steed traveling with no destination and no goal, making campfires and sleeping in isolated forests. Then the meteorite crashed near the prosperous kingdom of Tycoon, and it all went downhill from there.
Bartz ran to the site where a great space rock absolutely devastated the nearby area, only to be greeted by a woman- she called herself the princess of Tycoon, desperately searching for her father- and Bartz couldn't just leave a woman hanging. About to leave her on her own after saving her from goblins, Boco profusely decided to drill a hole in Bartz's skull until he went along to help Lenna. He was forced to join in on the little excursion once he found her with a strange amnesiac man who called himself Galuf.
Lenna begged Bartz to accompany her to the Wind Shrine, where she knew her father had gone on an expedition to discover why it was malfunctioning- why the sails on ships no longer rustled, why the grass remained deathly still, why the refreshing ocean breeze was non-existent.
On the way to the shrine, the party stumbled into a cave that was actually a hideout to a bunch of pirates- Galuf recommended they steal the ship, and Bartz decided to go along with it... only for the three of them to be captured and interrogated by a rather effeminate captain. Lenna's pendant was apparently enough to cause the captain to let them go after much interrogation, however, and so, using the mighty sea monster named Syldra, the ship was pulled to the Wind Shrine.
Arriving there, the party found that the Wind Crystal shattered into small bits, giving them its power- every Crystal gave its own blessing to one of the adventurers, and Bartz was given the blessing of the Wind Crystal. That seemed trivial, however- with the Wind Crystal gone, the world would descend into chaos. They frantically decided to head to Walse, to warn the wielders of the Water Crystal that the Crystals seemed to be shattering if used too much... and so, Bartz was forced to leave Boco behind, though he was not the only one to sacrifice a friend. Crossing through a tight canal on the way to Walse, Syldra was pulled under by a whirlpool, and the ship was left to drift for days.
Barely escaping the clutches of a siren, the group ran to Walse- and when they got to the Water Crystal, a mighty mammoth Garula, rammed into it and shattered it into small bits. Half of the crystals were gone- the water in the world grew muddy and tainted, stagnant and foul.
Things grew rather awkward- the party was already baffled by the fact that Faris was actually a woman, revealed in the ship graveyard where the siren tried to seduce them all to death... not only that, but she was apparently a princess of Tycoon! And Galuf... Galuf was a king? How could that be so when the old fool couldn't remember anything? Syldra died, returning from the whirlpool to save them from the chaos of the Water Crystal's destruction only to succumb to its wounds... what had Bartz gotten himself into?
After Galuf regained his memory and the group went to Karnak to try and save the Fire Crystal, only for it to shatter as well... Bartz began questioning just what was going on in the world. A mighty warlock called Exdeath, they were told. He had lived for 1000 years, and had only been stopped by the Warriors of Dawn- one of whom was Dorgann Klauser, Bartz's own father.
The desperate search for the Earth Crystal proved just as fruitless, and the chaos of the world was multiplied tenfold when Bartz and the princesses used the meteorites that had fallen around the world to teleport to an entirely new world- the world that Galuf hailed from, in fact.
Lenna and Faris were captured by a mighty beast, and Bartz failed to defeat the creature- so they were taken to Castle Exdeath, where the resurrected warlock held his seat of power. Even after escaping the dungeon, Bartz immediately tried to face the armored enigma and was tossed aside like nothing.
Things spiraled downhill further. The other three warriors of Dawn still lived- and it turned out Galuf was one of them. The warrior Xezat sacrificed his life to destroy a barrier around Castle Exdeath for the ones he heralded as the Warriors of Light. Galuf fell soon after to the twisted claws of Exdeath, and so, Bartz was forced to repress his grief and cheer the others on as Krile, Galuf's granddaughter, took his place. Then the werewolf Kelger emerged. He had previously challenged Bartz, only to be repelled by a trick that Dorgann had taught his son... and, the last Warrior of Dawn to live, he was also the last one to die, as he gave up his life energy to rip apart an illusion Exdeath created.
They were lost in that castle of abyss and despair, until Exdeath grew tired and eventually destroyed all of existence, forcing everything into the Void- the lifeless realm where nothing stirred. The bumbling swordsman Gilgamesh, previously a thorn in the party's side, sacrificed himself to defeat a powerful foe in their way... and Bartz held every sacrifice close as they marched to meet the twisted creature who was born from the hatred of a warlock. Exdeath had been little more than a tree- a tree in the wicked Forest of Moore that was used as a jail of sorts for demons and, specifically, Enuo. Enuo was a foul monster, an enigmatic being that tried to harness the power of the Void for his own purposes of annihilating everything.
Knowing this, the party kept marching- and, eventually, finding themselves in the middle of the Void, defeated Exdeath, sending him to the darkness he so desired and restoring both worlds to their proper forms. The Rift was created to distance the worlds, to avoid them being merged and sent into the Void... knowing this knowledge, Bartz bid Krile farewell and, with Lenna and Faris, headed back to the familiarity of the places they knew so well- their homes.
Role: Third Year
Weaknesses:Extremely lackadaisical and carefree, skirt-chaser, overconfident and blunt. He'll speak his mind, even if what comes out isn't exactly pleasant. He's loud, cocky and a total show-off, and Bartz is completely content acting that way. He also has a completely debilitating fear of heights due to a childhood incident that still haunts him to this day.
Strengths: Very good at multitasking, and well-rounded in all areas. Jack of trades, master of none. Bartz is a smooth-talker and a friendly guy, the first one to offer a handshake to a new student- and this potent social persona is one of his most potent weapons.
Weapons/Magic: Bartz has a decorated red blade called the Brave Blade, but almost never manifests it. He usually copies the weapons and styles of others- this is also how he learned such a large variety of magic, by watching and mimicking the spells of others.
How did you come to be at the academy?: Traveling around the world your entire life takes a heavy toll on your academics, y'know! Let's not go into the story about the evil tree...

((I always hated this final battle. If somebody got taken out... they were GONE. Therefore...! Slight spoilers.))
The pit had opened again. They were surrounded by absolutely nothing but the wreckage and rubble of the world they loved, the world that he obsessively pulled into the Void into his quest for absolute, total destruction. There was nothing-this whole realm was a vast stretch of pitch black, the occasional tree or speck of dirt flying about in the battlefield as they somehow stood on solid ground. But there was nothing to stand on.
He had no time to question physics as he heard the scream next to him, the hungry pit ripping through time and space, its target obvious, its vacuum absolute. He saw nothing of her- only heard the muffled scream as time slowed, as he saw blonde being gobbled greedily by ebony, that pale hand attempting to grip the edge of the ragged vortex...
"Lenna! Lenna, come on, not you too!"
Oh god... they were all dead. The portal disappeared into nothingness before he could so much as reach out a hand. He was alone. He was the only human in existence... the only living thing other than that mockery of nature looming far above him. She was smashed into minuscule atoms so tiny that she might as well not even exist. He had won. The wicked tree possessed by the embodiment of evil itself, animated by a twisted sorcerer... he won.
He was alone, silence profound as he begged something to reach his ears, for somebody to speak. Faris yelling at him to fight... Krile crying... Lenna telling him to not be afraid. They weren't there.
"All shall return to the Void. Son of Dorgann, you are next."
He was going to vomit, he was going to... he grabbed the sword in hand, arms trembling and shaking as he bit back the sob that finally emerged, the sheer terror that managed to grip the normally-cheerful man taking its toll.
"I'm going to cut you down to a stump, Exdeath."
The twisted faces in the gnarled bark scoffed at him, some branches turning into completely different beasts entirely. The demon in the center of the forest of Moore had turned into a god- an unbeatable master of absolute nothingness. He heard the booming laughter, the horned creature's eyes glowing as clawed hands tore open the largest abyss he had ever seen.
"Step into the black hole, worm. Be ground into dust like your friends."
Oh god, his legs were being pulled, he couldn't walk, he couldn't struggle- all Bartz could do was beg his body to move as he was pulled closer, and closer... what would his mother and father think of him now?
And then there was nothing[/b].
