"Someday I will be queen, but I will always be myself."
About the Roleplayer
Nickname: Hai, my name is Kitty.
RP Experience: Fo' years.
About the Character
Name: Officially, she is Princess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII, but she's been called by other names in the past. Her real name is Sarah, given to her by her biological mother while she lived with her and the other summoners on the isle of Madain Sari as a child. And while on the run from Queen Brahne, she used the alias Dagger to disguise herself as a peasant.
Age: Sixteen.
Anime/Game/OC: Final Fantasy IX
Personality: When the story begins, Garnet is an emotionally smothered girl who is tired of having her opinion belittled and aspires to be bolder without really knowing how. For a large part of the game, her emotions were unstable, and she lacked major self-confidence, unsure of how to speak up for herself. She feels increasingly helpless because of this, and it doesn't help that her voice is constantly drowned out or stifled whenever she attempts to raise it.
Because of her royal upbringing, she is polite and well-mannered, but lacks street smarts and knowledge about life outside of the kingdom. Having lived a sheltered life, she is often very naive. Surprisingly though, living in luxury has not raised Garnet to be an arrogant, spoiled child; she has not lost touch with compassion and cares deeply for the people of her kingdom. In fact, it is her title as princess and her love for her mother that makes her feel obligated to do more than bystand, and as a result, she takes matters into her own hands.
Despite seeming meek and being constantly written off as delicate, Garnet has a sturdiness within her that is fortified by an equally strong will. In the few instances that it emerged, she pulls off rather daring stunts, such as her escape from Alexandria Castle and even tricking her own friends to eat food with sleep powder in it, so that they can't prevent her from returning to Alexandria and doing what she feels needs to be done. However, in both instances, she has serious second thoughts about the actions she just did; once again, her lack of confidence sinks in.
She is also a rather isolated person, and often doesn't feel comfortable sharing her innermost thoughts and thus, likes to keep her feelings inside. She bottles herself up and does not reveal what she is truly thinking about, which can sometimes lead to regretfulness on her part: "I should have said something ..." or "I should have done that instead ..." In her heart she wishes she were someone stronger, but her doubts, her worries and her lack of self esteem hold her back.
In many ways, Garnet is like a bird that was trapped in a cage, who, after much coaxing, was freed and allowed to take wing. Because of Zidane and her friends, she was able to become more sure of herself, and more opinionated. She grew surer of her actions and became emotionally stronger in order to deal with what happened around her. She also learned a great deal more about what life is really like in the world; how people really lived. Garnet was flung into her adventures as a rather helpless girl, but she emerged with confidence, maturity, and wisdom, prepared to be a good queen.
History: Born into the tribe of summoners inhabiting Madain Sari, Garnet lived her childhood there with her mother, much too early within her life to recall more than blips and flashes now. Their tranquil lives were shattered the day Garland attacked the island with the airship Invincible, immortalized in Garnet's dreams as a giant eye in a burning sky.
Trying to escape the destruction of their home, Garnet and her mother brave the tempestuous seas in a little boat, crash landing on the shores of Alexandria, a kingdom on the Mist Continent halfway around the globe. At this point, Garnet's mother had died, and the child was quite alone when she is discovered by Doctor Tot.
By some strange coincidence, Garnet bears a shocking resemblance to the the royal princess of Alexandria, who had died of an illness shortly before Garnet's arrival. Instead of disheartening the people with the news that their beloved princess had died, Garnet was secretly adopted by the king and queen of Alexandria. There was only one problem, though; Garnet had the trademark horn all summoners are born with. It was surgically removed, and the story of the dead princess that she had replaced was kept from Garnet, who soon forgot her origins as she grew older.
Time went by rather normally for the next decade, but the perceptive princess became aware of a disturbance in the palace that gained presence every day. A mysterious visitor was slowly and surely becoming a negative influence on her mother. Much to Garnet's distress, the queen was beginning to behave stranger and stranger.
Then, on the eve of her sixteenth birthday, she resolved that her time of uselessly standing by and watching Queen Brahne devolve had come to an end. Fearing for her mother and kingdom, Garnet resolved to be spirited away to Lindblum, where her trusted uncle was Regent. Little did she know, however, that her uncle had already arranged to have Garnet brought to him. This is how she met Zidane, a thief masquerading as an actor who vowed to kidnap her.
What followed was an adventure that spanned over two planets. The incredibly sheltered Garnet was thrust into a merciless gauntlet that nearly destroyed her and her newly-made friends. It turned out her suspicions had been correct; her mother was not well, and had not been since she was coerced into waging war with all the other continents. Her goal of gaining control of four jewels that summoned Eidolons, powerful creatures that were naturally the responsibility of the summoners, made Garnet suddenly expendable to Brahne. After fighting off three specially-made black mages known as Black Waltzes, she is captured by Zorn and Thorn, the queen's court jesters and minions, who extract her Eidolons.
Recovered by Zidane and the gang, Garnet pursues her mother in order to stop her awful plans and return her to normal. Hope for a return to normalcy is slowly drained from the princess, now less naive every day, after watching the deranged Queen Brahne destroy Cleyra and attack Lindblum with her Eidolons. Nevertheless, Garnet is still prepared to confront the queen and get her to end the war. Kuja ends all hope on that front when he murders Brahne with Bahamut. [Isn't that just so like him? ANYWAY--]
Thus, in the light of countless tragedies, both on a personal and national level, Garnet is crowned queen of Alexandria, and was separated from the gang again in preparation for the coronation. For now, her days of traveling the world with Zidane and them are as good as over. Not missing the prime opportunity to spread a little chaos, Kuja crashes the coronation after party and unleashes Bahamut on Alexandria castle. Alexander, a powerful Eidolon, is summoned by Garnet and Eiko. It defeats Bahamut only to be destroyed in turn by the airship Invincible. Combine this with scores of monsters running amok through the city, and Alexandria is left decimated by the battle.
Garnet is so affected by the accumulated trauma she had suffered that she sinks into a mute depression, blaming herself for all the death and suffering that had occurred. Doctor Tot also took this time to reveal to the new queen her origins. She was not, in fact, the late Queen Brahne's daughter, and actually a refugee from Madain Sari after it was attacked by the Invincible in her childhood.
It took much convincing from Zidane, Vivi, a young black mage, and Steiner, her guard, to get her to snap out of her funk and rejoin the party, who had its sights set on Kuja. Realizing that nothing would get better unless she helped, she cut her hair away, releasing all her sorrow and guilt with that gesture. Garnet leaves her crumbling country to end the evil that had attacked Gaia once and for all.
Once on the planet Terra, Kuja, who is revealed to be Zidane's brother, was confronted once more. Here they found a planet full of people without souls, and it was revealed by Garland that Zidane is one of them. In addition to being a genome, Garland adds that Zidane and Kuja were meant to destroy the planet Gaia to ensure the survival of Terra, calling them both angels of death. Kuja kills Garland, achieves Trance, and Ultimas the stuffing out of Terra, which the party narrowly escapes.
The now unhinged Kuja follows them back to Gaia, intent on destroying this world as well. They fight him and Necron, death itself, in a final showdown with the Iifa Tree for a setting, and are victorious. Then, at the very last moment, Zidane and Garnet are separated as Zidane returns to find the dying Kuja.
Positively heart-broken, Garnet goes home to ascend the throne and begin repairing Alexandria. It is all she can do to try and get on without Zidane, who she assumes is gone forever. They are reunited some time later (It isn't known how much time passes, but it is shown that Garnet's hair has grown back, so a year or two at the least.) with the words "Bring my beloved Dagger to me!"
Role: Second year student.
Weaknesses: Has been raised to believe that duty comes first, and she puts the welfare of her kingdom before everything, guilt-trips like woah, and is still a bit naive.
Strengths: Has infallibly noble intentions, a double-reinforced steel will, and can be clever and sneaky when it's appropriate.
Weapons/Magic: Various magical rods and rackets that allow Dagger to perform her white magic and summon creatures called Eidolons.
How did you come to be at the academy?: She was convinced to further her education by Doctor Tot, and is very curious to freely interact with people her age in such a casual setting.

It was over. The war, the terrible war that had ravaged every kingdom on the Mist Continent and left countless lives in ruin, was at an end. They had seen to that, ventured forth and taken the evil out at its origin, ensured that the one pulling the strings would be puppeteer no more. When they emerged from the Iifa Tree, bloody, battered, and half dead from it all, they ascended to statuses not unlike those usually reserved for gods, and a celebration welcomed them wherever their airship touched down until they had returned to Alexandria. Even there, amid ruins, and quite against Garnet's wishes, they feasted.
Because they were all heroes now. Especially him. No longer was he a filthy street rat, vagabond, or shameless skirt-chaser, and never had he been the next of kin to the Angel of Death, known as Lord King in the gilded social circles of Treno. Instead, he was Gaia's champion, conqueror, savior, more so because he was the one that didn't return. Ramuh bless him, Shiva preserve him.
It was always so hard to hear the people sing his praises. No matter how much time would pass (vaguely measured by Garnet in the regrowth of her hair because she simply couldn't keep track anymore) the very utterance of his name was enough to make her want to sink to the ground, and the swelling under her eyes became constant, though everyone wanted to attribute that to how burdened she was with rebuilding her kingdom. How the new queen managed to limit her mourning to rare moments of privacy was a mystery to everyone.
Despite this, the gossip abounded. One morning, as maids rushed here and there across her chambers and she still hadn't risen from bed, Garnet overheard two girls comparing her to a character in a fable, wherein a grief-stricken sweetheart resorted to binding his heart with bands of steel to prevent it from breaking.
"Can you imagine how Her Highness must feel, especially after she ordered Regent Cid to call off his search parties? If you ask me, they was just waisting their time; that tree gobbled her lover right up," one quipped not-so-under-her-breath to the other while throwing open a window. Hidden under the bed sheets, Garnet doubted the strength of steel bands would be sufficient in her case. Either way, whatever efforts were undertaken now to supersede any damage to her heart would have been in vain, because it was already in pieces.
After that, it was so difficult to get up and face the rest of the day when she already felt defeated and it was barely morning. He was gone, and in his place was something that never ceased aching, and the voice inside her that said he would honor his promise and return was growing fainter and fainter every day. She chided herself, demanding that she just accept it, that he would never come back. That even though when she shut her eyes, she was still hanging over the side of her uncle's airship, wishing she had dared to say something more substantial than "Please come back," and panicking the instant she lost sight of him, and despite the fact that she could not pass through a single night without dreaming he had not remained behind, he was gone.
And it never got any easier.
